Inventario de fuentes potenciales de residuos peligrosos en el estado de Yucatán, México

El manejo y disposición de los residuos peligrosos (RP) es uno de los retos más importantes en materia ambiental. En la actualidad son pocas las empresas que se registran oficialmente como productoras de RP, por lo que no ha sido posible cuantificarlos totalmente a nivel nacional. Un primer paso para conocer los tipos y las cantidades de RP que se generan es la realización de un inventario de fuentes potenciales de residuos peligrosos (FPRP). El presente estudio se realizó en los 106 municipios del estado de Yucatán, donde se localizaron con posicionadores satelitales 3945 FPRP. El municipio con mayor concentración de FPRP fue Mérida, con 47.7 %. 73.4 % del total se encontró ubicado en los once municipios más poblados del estado. Las FPRP se clasificaron de acuerdo al giro industrial y a la cantidad de RP generada anualmente. Se observó que predominó el área automotriz (34.2 %) y que 89 % de las FPRP son microgeneradores.

Hazardous waste (HW) handling and disposal is one of the most important environmental challenges. Today few companies in Mexico declare to be HW generators; so far it has not been possible the quantification of all the HW generated in the country. A first step to know the kind and quantity of HW generated is conducting an inventory of potential generation sources. The present study was conducted in 106 municipalities of the State of Yucatan. 3945 potential HW sources were located using GPS. The municipality with the highest concentration of potential sources was Mérida, with 47.7 %. 73.4 % of all potential sources were located in the eleven most populated municipalities of the State. Potential sources of HW were classified according to their industrial activity and the yearly generation of HW. Most were related to the automotive industry (34.2 %); 89 % of the total potential sources of HW are microgenerators.
