English abstract
Programmed cell death (apoptosis) is one of the most studied phenomena in the context of biomedical science. The relevance of it is supported by the fact that several diseases which could affect both human beings and animals are caused by alterations of this physiological mechanism of death. In fact, it is proposed in this study that: Without the existence of programmed cell death, life as we know now, could not be possible. The aim of this paper is to provide a general overview about programmed cell death, and also to define and show its own regulation. Alterations of programmed cell death, and the relationship with different diseases are also described, as well as the most common techniques to detect programmed cell death.
