Efecto del 1-metilciclopropeno (1-mcp) sobre la vida de anaquel y calidad de mango para exportación

En este trabajo se evaluó el efecto del 1-Metilciclopropeno (1- MCP) sobre la vida de anaquel y calidad de mango ‘Kent’ para exportación. Durante la temporada 2003 se establecieron dos ensayos para probar seis dosis del 1-MCP (0, 100, 200, 300, 600 y 900 nL L- 1), màs un ensayo semicomercial que incluyó un testigo sin tratar y la mejor dosis de 1-MCP de los ensayos previos (300 nL L-1). Se encontró que el 1-MCP a 300 n L L-1 retrasó significativamente el proceso de maduración y la pérdida de firmeza, al prolongar hasta en 4 d la vida de anaquel del mango ‘Kent’. Asimismo, se concluye que el 1- MCP puede ser una tecnología viable para la exportación de mango ‘Kent’ vía marítima a la Unión Europea y Asia al minimizar riesgos de pérdidas postcosecha en mercado terminal y reducir costos del transporte.

In this assay we evaluated the effect of 1-Methylcyclopropene (1- MCP) on shelf life and quality of ‘Kent’ mangos for export. During the mango season 2003 two experiments were set to compare six 1- MCP doses (0, 100, 200, 300, 600 y 900 nL L-1). In addition, a semicommercial experiment was done considering only the best dose (300 nL L-1) obtained in the previous trials, plus an untreated control. It was found that 1-MCP at 300 nL L-1 delayed the ripening process, maintained firmness longer and lengthened for 4 d the shelf life of ‘Kent’ mangos. Moreover, it was concluded that 1-MCP may be a viable technology for exporting ‘Kent’ mango to Europe and Asia by sea transportation, because it decreases over mature risks in the destination markets and lowers shipment costs.
