Tamaño y Desarrollo Socioeconómico de los Países Americanos al Final del Siglo XX

En este artículo se clasifica a las 51 entidades políticas del continente americano (35 Estados independientes y 16 territorios dependientes) de acuerdo con sus respectivos tamaños y con los niveles de desarrollo socioeconómico que ostentaban al concluir el siglo XX. El tamaño se establece con respecto a tres dimensiones: económica, demográfica y ter ri to - rial, mientras que para determinar el nivel de desarrollo se consideran el índice de desarrollo humano (IDH), el producto por habitante, el porcentaje de alfabetismo y la mortalidad infantil.

In this article the 51 political entities of the American continent (35 independent states and 16 dependent territories) are classified according their respective size and socio-economic development levels at the end of the XXth Century. The size is established by three dimensions: economical, demographical and territorial; while the development level is determined by the Human Development Index (HDI), the product per in habitant, the literacy ratio and the infant mortality.
