Abstract

This article takes as point of departure the notion that preaching represents a form of reframing of perspective. Cognisance is taken of Calvin’s understanding of faith as perceiving, as well as Capps’ (1990) reintroduction of the idea of reframing. This is followed up by a brief look at Paul’s reframing of the concepts “foolishness” and “wisdom”, as well as an excursion into the world of art, particularly surrealism as possible homiletic colla-borator. Some implications are drawn for preaching, under the headings: the preacher, congregation, the Biblical text and God as reframer.
