Productividad del chile jalapeño en condiciones de riego por goteo y acolchado plástico

Los métodos modernos de irrigación como el riego por goteo, son herramientas importantes para incrementar la eficiencia del uso del agua, especialmente en regiones áridas donde es un recurso escaso y limitante para la producción agrícola. El uso de tales métodos de riego y del acolchado plástico, reduce aún más la evaporación directa del suelo y mejora el microambiente alrededor de las raíces del cultivo, lo que promueve un mejor desarrollo de la planta y aumenta los niveles de eficiencia y productividad del agua. En este estudio se evaluó la respuesta del chile Jalapeño (Capsicum annum L.) en fruto verde, a tratamientos de riego por goteo y acolchado plástico: dos niveles de aplicación de agua (20-60 y 30-70 % de la evaporación) y seis colores de acolchado plástico de 150 µm de espesor (negro, rojo, blanco, azul y verde) más un tratamiento sin acolchar. El rendimiento obtenido con riego alto (48.8 t ha-1) superó al del nivel de riego bajo (42.2 t ha-1). Aunque no se observaron diferencias entre los colores de acolchado, los tratamientos acolchados superaron en casi 50 % al rendimiento y eficiencia del uso de agua obtenidos con el tratamiento sin acolchar. Los tratamientos acolchados también produjeron mayor cantidad de materia seca y área foliar que los tratamientos sin acolchar. El rendimiento promedio de chile en verde obtenido con los tratamientos acolchados fue cuatro veces mayor que el rendimiento promedio (11.3 t ha-1) obtenido en la Región Lagunera durante los tres años previos.
