Postmodernidad. Las criptas de la vida

La resistencia de la sociología oficial dificulta mucho el análisis sereno de la posmodernidad. En efecto, por referencia a la lógica del deber ser, los sistemas de pensamiento, que se reproducen en nuestras universidades, siguen obnubilados por los valores universalistas elaborados en el siglo XIX, valores de trabajo, de fe en el porvenir y de prevalencia de la razón. Quiérase o no, sin distingos de izquierda y de derecha, estos sistemas oficiales se apoyan en la concepción de un individuo racional, dueño de sí, y que contrae vínculos con otros individuos racionales para construir la sociedad. Empíricamente, se observa que otros elementos son los que entran en juego, en particular en las prácticas juveniles, elementos que radican al mismo tiempo en un hedonismo latente, en una importancia del cuerpo y en el énfasis en el presente. Allí están las grandes características de la posmodernidad que requieren ser pensadas. Es posible analizar, sin que el intelecto tenga que abdicar, las comunidades emocionales, aquello que llamo el tribalismo contemporáneo y la “cultura del sentimiento” que tiende a prevalecer en nuestras sociedades.

The resistance of official sociology makes the serene analysis of postmodernity very difficult. In fact, when referring to the logic of what should be, our thought systems, which are reproduced in our universities, continue to be clouded over by universal values elaborated in the XIXth Century, values related to work, to faith in the future, and the prevalence of reason. Whether they want to or not, whether leftist or rightist, these official systems are based on the conception of a rational individual, self-made, and who relates with other rational individuals in order to conform society. Empirically, we observe that other elements come into play, in particular in juvenile practices, elements that are found in latent hedonism, in the importance of the body and the emphasis on the present. These are the more important characteristics of postmodernism which require reflection. It is possible to analyze, without having to renounce intellect, these emotional communities, those which call tribalism contemporary and the culture of feelings which tends to prevail in our societies.
