Lithuanian State Support for Applied Studies Abroad in 1919–1940
Abstract
The process of creating the economy of the independent state of Lithuania and further modernization of public life required experts in different fields. However, they could not be trained by Lithuanian higher schools. Besides, the development of studies and practical experience in agricultural sciences, technology, finances, commerce and other areas played a crucial role in the life of the young state. Therefore, a vast majority of foreign scholars were the students of applied specialities studying at special institutions of higher education. The article analyses the specialization of Lithuanian students in the field of applied studies abroad and explores state financial support.
