Efecto de la densidad de población y raleo de frutos sobre el rendimiento y tamaño del fruto en tomate

Se evaluó el efecto de diferentes densidades de población y raleo de frutos de tomate (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill.) sobre el rendimiento y tamaño de fruto. El experimento se realizó bajo invernadero con plantas del cv. Daniela despuntadas a tres racimos por planta. Como sustrato hidropónico se usó arena de tezontle rojo que se irrigó mediante goteo con una solución nutritiva balanceada. Se combinaron cuatro densidades (6, 8, 9 y 12 plantas/m2) y con tres intensidades de raleo de frutos (sin raleo, raleo a tres y raleo a cuatro frutos por racimo), para un total de 12 tratamientos. Se utilizó un diseño de parcelas divididas con cuatro repeticiones y se asignaron las parcelas grandes a densidades y las subparcelas a niveles de raleo. La densidad más alta produjo el mayor rendimiento por unidad de superficie (19.9 kg/m2) y los frutos más pequeños (125 g). El mayor porcentaje de frutos grandes (entre 6 y 8 cm de diámetro) se logró en la de 6 plantas/ m2 combinada con la poda a tres frutos por racimo, pero con 12 plantas m-2 el número de frutos grandes por m2 fue superior en 59 frutos. En promedio de las densidades, el tratamiento sin raleo produjo 118 frutos grandes por m2, contra 72 en el tratamiento con tres frutos por racimo.

The effect of different population densities and fruit thinning on yield and fruit size was evaluated on tomato plants (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill.) cv. Daniela grow under greenhouse and trimmed to three clusters per plant. The substrate was red volcanic sand which was irrigated through a drip system with a balanced nutrient solution. Four population densities (6, 8, 9 and 12 plants/m2) were combined with three fruit thinning intensities (without thinning, thinned to three and thinned to four fruits per cluster) for a total of 12 treatments. A split-plot design with four replications was used, assigning the plots to plant densities and the subplots to thinning levels. The highest density produced yielded the highest yield (19.94 kg m-2) and the smallest fruits (125 g). The highest percent of large fruits (diameter between 6 and 8 cm) was obtained with 6 plants/m2 combined with clusters thinned to three fruits. However, with 12 plants/m2 there were 59 more large size fruits/m2 than with 6 plants/m2. In plants/m2 fruits/m2 the average of plant densities, the treatment without fruit thinning produce 118 large fruits/m2, against 72 in the treatment with clusters thinned to three fruits.
