Interés de los estudiantes de medicina por la investigación

Objetivo: Determinar el interés de los estudiantes de medicina por la investigación médica. Diseño: Estudio descriptivo transversal. Lugar: Universidad Libre seccional Cali, Colombia. Participantes: Ciento noventa estudiantes de medicina. Intervenciones: El estudio se realizó desde agosto a diciembre de 2009, usando muestreo aleatorio simple. Principales medidas de resultados: La información se analizó con Stata versión 8, utilizando promedios, desviación estándar y proporciones. Resultados: De los 190 estudiantes 62,6% eran de sexo femenino, con edad promedio de 20,4 años (DE ± 2,5). El 90,0% ha tenido interés por investigar. El 21,05% hace investigación, 13,68% tiene un trabajo de investigación terminado, 6,84% pertenece a un grupo de investigación. Del total de encuestados 3,16% tiene alguna publicación y 2,63% ha presentado algún trabajo en un congreso. La falta de tiempo es identificada por el 55,26% de los estudiantes como la mayor dificultad para investigar. Con respecto a la pregunta si tiene alguna persona a quien admire en esta profesión el 41,58% de los estudiantes respondieron que no. El deseo de proseguir estudios de posgrado en epidemiologia fue mayor en el grupo de estudiantes que hacían investigación con respecto a los que no investigaban. Conclusiones: Aunque el interés por investigar es alto, el porcentaje de estudiantes que la realiza es bajo al igual que el número de publicaciones. Se deben tomar medidas para estimular la investigación en pregrado una buena opción es impulsar los grupos de investigación con mentores capacitados en el área de la investigación.

Interventions: The study was conducted between Augusts and December 2009, using a simple random sampling. Main Outcome Measures: The information was analyzed with Stata 8, using averages, standard deviations and proportions. Results: Of 190 participants, 62.6% were female, mean age of 20.4 years (SD± 2.5). Ninety percent (90%) were interested in research, 21.05% did research, 13.68% have a complete research paper and 6.84% belong to a research group. Of the respondents, 3.16% have a publication and only 2.63% have presented the investigation in a congress. Lack of time was identified by 55.26% of the students as the mayor difficulty to investigate. To the question, if there is someone you admire in this profession 41.58% of the students said no. Wanting further postgraduate studies in epidemiology was higher in the group of students that make research compared with those who didn¿t. Conclusions: Although research interest was high, the percentage of research students and the number of publications was low. Actions should be taken to stimulate research in medical students, promote research groups with trained mentors is a recommendable option.
